NutMan FAQ: Translating Data from NutMan 1 to NutMan 2
Can I open old NutMan 1 data in NutMan 2?
Problem Description: Nutrient plan files created with NutMan version 1 need to be modified with NutMan 2
Answer: Unfortunately, there is no way to open old NutMan 1 files directly with NutMan 2. The underlying file formats for the two versions are very different. But there is a way to export much of the data contained in a NutMan 1 plan into an intermediate file format that can be imported into NutMan 2. The process takes several steps and requires that you have the latest installment of NutMan 1, called NutMan 1.28c which is available on the download web page.
To move data from a NutMan 1 file (with a .nmp extension) to a NutMan 2 file (with a .nm2 extension):
Start NutMan 1.28c and open up the .nmp file you want to export.
In NutMan 1.28c, select File=>Export on the main menu.
The program doesn’t say anything, but it created a file with the same name, in the same folder as the original file, but with the file extension ".nmx". So if you exported a NutMan 1 file named "myplan.nmp", a file has been created called "myplan.nmx". This nmx file is an intermediate file with a format that can be read by NutMan 2.
Start NutMan 2.
In NutMan 2, select File=>Import nmx file on the main menu.
Browse to the .nmx file you just created and select it.
Tract, Field, and soils data will be imported into NutMan 2.
Now you can save the data as a NutMan 2 file (.nm2) and edit it as you would any file created by NutMan 2.
Note:Not everything in the original plan file is translated by this process. Only tracts, fields, and soils data will be imported from the NutMan 1 data. Crops, manures, and nutrient applications are not translated.
